Adoption Process
Each dog that arrives in care at WCCR goes into a foster home, usually for a month or more, as their needs require. Their medical and behavioural needs, if any, are taken care of while the foster family gets to know their personality as a house dog with people and often with other pets. This allows us to understand what kind of home would be best for them.
To adopt one of these collies or shelties there are several steps to help us get to know you and your home environment so we can match dogs and adopters. Adoptions are made on the basis of the best match, not on who applies first.

Please tell us as much as you can about yourself and your family, other and past pets, your home environment and your dog experience. The more we know, the better we can match you with a dog. We want adoptions to be successful (and permanent) for both parties
The information on your adoption form will not be shared outside our small adoption group without your permission. Occasionally we hear about a dog that might be what you are looking for, who is with another rescue group or in a shelter. If so, we may let you know about it so you can contact the group directly or we may ask your permission to share your information for your benefit. We will let you know that we received your application. We may ask a few questions if clarification is needed. We will then contact you when we think we have a good match for you, to tell you about the dog and to arrange for a home visit.
One of our WCCR members or volunteers will come to visit your home. We need to meet your whole family (everyone who lives in the home including any other pets). We need to see the home environment so we can determine if it is safe and suitable and for the dog’s needs. This visit is made without the dog.
If you are approved as an adopter we will then share the information we have on the dog you have expressed interest in, or one we think would be a good fit for your household. If you decide this may be the dog for you, we will make transport arrangements, and bring the dog to your home for a trial period. We have an adoption agreement that must be signed for us to release the dog to you and formalize the adoption. We will be happy to accept your adoption donation at this time. If the adoption does not work out, do not worry – we will bring the dog back into WCCR care and will find another home for it.
